How do I find true love? As a single person, I’ve asked myself this countless times.

This, and many other versions like, “When will I find love?” or “Will I find love?”

Maybe that’s why I’m a sucker for love stories.

Like this love story of Kili and Tauriel.. of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies.

 

Unexpected Love

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, let me introduce you to Kili and Tauriel.

Kili is a dwarf… Tauriel is an elf. Elves and Dwarves have a long-standing history of hating each other.

Kili and Tauriel.. An unlikely pair, right? A very strange relationship.

Yet, watch this:

Yes, That’s 50 reasons why I like their love story. How can an elf ever fall for a dwarf? How could Tauriel ever fall for Kili?

Yet, they have found an unexpected love.

Here’s Kili ‘fessing up to Tauriel:

And Tauriel crying out, “Why does it hurt so much?

 

Yes, Love that is willing to die for the good of the beloved.

Even if their love ended before it began… Even though I feel sad whenever I think of a love like theirs.. I just remember this love quote:

“It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.”

I wish with all my heart that I’ll find true love.. Like these two unlikely pair did.

Finding true love

But how did their love start, you may ask? How did they find true love, strange as it may seem?

Let’s go back to the beginning:

So, did you get it? Did you get how their love started? how they found true love?

They became friends.. Sharing joys, experiences..listening to each other.. Finding connections when they thought there was none… Giving of themselves to each other. Then they gave the greatest gift they could give to each other: their lives..for the good of the other.

Didn’t Jesus say the same thing?

“The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them.”

Jesus did the same thing for us…gave His life that we may live.

Find your love

So, how to find true love?

Start with friendship.

Be a friend. To yourself.. To others.. And to God, our Greatest Friend.

• Seek God as your friend first. He’ll show you how to be a friend to yourself and to others.

•  Strive to be a true friend. Seek friendships. One day, love will find you.

 

 

Dear Lord, help me to be a true friend to You, to my self, and to others. Teach me to love like You do, as I trust You to write my love story. Amen.
