2 Steps to Starting a Successful Business

Do you dream of starting a business?

I do.

Have you ever wondered how, where, or what to start?

I did.

Until I read this passage.

The wife of a man from the groups of prophets said to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, is dead. You know he honored the LORD. But now the man he owes money to is coming to take my two boys as his slaves!” Elisha answered, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” The woman said, “I don’t have anything there except a pot of oil.” Then Elisha said, “Go and get empty jars from all your neighbors. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go into your house and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and set the full ones aside.” So she left Elisha and shut the door behind her and her sons. As they brought the jars to her, she poured out the oil. When the jars were all full, she said to her son, “Bring me another jar.” But he said, “There are no more jars.” Then the oil stopped flowing. She went and told Elisha. And the prophet said to her, “Go, sell the oil and pay what you owe. You and your sons can live on what is left.” (‭2 Kings‬ ‭4‬:‭1-7‬ NCV)

STEP 1: Start with God

God is a proponent of good business.

Like this widow who desperately needs to start a business to earn sustenance for her family.

She asked God first through the prophet Elisha. She did’nt go around borrowing money from her friends and family.. She went to God first.

That’s asking for wisdom..the ability to put in practice what you know.. From Wisdom Himself.

Why not ask God? He created everything. He created you. He knows what your’re capable of.. what you can or cannot do.

That brings me to my second point.

STEP 2: Start with Yourself

God asked the widow through the prophet Elisha, ” What do you have in your house?”

God always works with what we have.

When He sent out Moses on a mission to free His people the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt, He asked Moses, “What’s in your hands?”

What gifts do you have..talents.. abilities..something you are really good at? What are you passionate about? What are your pains? What do you do as an employee, if you are. If money was no question.. What do you want to do?

Starting a Successful Business

God used what little the widow has, a jar of oil, and used it to launch a successful business.. So she was able to pay her debts, save her sons from slavery and retire

God can do the same for us.

If we are willing to ask God for wisdom and then do what He says.

You have time, talent, and treasure. Ask God what He wants you to do with them and then just go do it.

What’s in Your Hands?

So, do you want to start a business?

if you have the desire to start a business, God has given you that desire.

Act on it.

Move in the direction of your dreams.

God did it for the widow. He’ll do it for you too. And for me.

And how do I know that?

He is the same God, yesterday, today and forever.

So do you want to start a business?

What’s that in your hands? And what’s there in your house?

Action steps for victory

  • Ask God what He wants you to do, what business you can start with what you have.
  • Give to Him your time, talent, and treasure, and go just do it.

praying hands of a child Dear Jesus, thank You for the desire to start a business. I give You my time, talents, and treasures. Help me to do what You want me to do. Amen.

This is it for now. ‘Til next time.
