The Holy Spirit: Wind Beneath My Wings

Happy Pentecost, Church!

Today we celebrate the day Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to be our Companion forever.

Whenever I think of the Holy Spirit, I think of Bette Medler’s song: “Wind Beneath My Wings”.

This song is the theme from the movie “Beaches”. One of my favorite movies of all time.

it’s about 2 best friends who went through life together.. Becoming each other’s wind beneath their wings..allowing each to grow and fly heights of achievement and success..supporting each other in times of pain and sorrows.. Until death.

I’ve always longed for a lifetime companion and partner.. A best friend.. who will always stay with me until death do as part.

i have developed close friendships and for a season we were inseparable but times change and people move on.

That’s why, as a single woman, I long for a husband.. Because when one gets married..you get a companion for life. Marriage is supposed to last your lifetime, right?

i must admit though that now a days, marriage seems to be no guarantee of forevermore.

Still, I’m happy when people get married.. and I’m amazed looking at married couples.. Because they must love each other so much..and like each other so much..to be able to spend so much time together.. To be willing to spend the rest of their lives together.

Companion for Life

Today’s feast reminds me that I already have a Companion for life.

it’s great to have a best friend and find a husband..and having a husband who is also your best friend is a bonus..

But I already have a Companion. For life. Even unto eternal life.

The Holy Spirit.

Then Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. (‭John‬ ‭20‬:‭19-22‬ GNBDK)

I have received the Holy Spirit. In Baptism, in Confirmation, in the laying on of hands at a life in the Spirit Seminar..

i have a companion for life. I am never alone.

He is the Wind beneath my wings.

Here are 5 reasons why The Holy Spirit is the Wind beneath my wings and why He should be yours too:

He is my Helper
He is the Power of God upon me
He is my Wisdom
He helps me pray perfectly
He stands by me for all time.

HE IS MY HELPER

But I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I go away, because if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I do go away, then I will send him to you. (‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬ GNBDK)

HE IS THE POWER OF GOD UPON ME

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God’s power will rest upon you. (‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭35‬ GNBDK)

HE IS MY WISDOM

No one has ever learnt your will, unless you first gave him Wisdom, and sent your holy spirit down to him. In this way people on earth have been set on the right path, have learnt what pleases you, and have been kept safe by Wisdom.” (‭Wisdom‬ ‭9‬:‭17-18‬ GNBDK)

HE PRAYS WITHIN ME

In the same way the Spirit also comes to help us, weak as we are. For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit himself pleads with God for us in groans that words cannot express. And God, who sees into our hearts, knows what the thought of the Spirit is; because the Spirit pleads with God on behalf of his people and in accordance with his will. (‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭26-27‬ GNBDK)

HE GIVES ME LIFE ETERNAL

But if Christ lives in you, the Spirit is life for you because you have been put right with God, even though your bodies are going to die because of sin. If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you. (‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭10-11‬ GNBDK)

So today, take heart. Whatever it is you’re facing right now… You are never alone.

You have the Holy Spirit. He can be the wind beneath your wings.
