Trust and Rely on God

Trusting and Relying on God featured image

Do you trust and rely on God? Or do you trust and rely on others or your own strength too much? Here I’m going to reflect on why we need to trust and rely on God and not on mere human beings.

And certainly not on our own strength alone.

5 Yahweh says this, ‘Accursed be anyone who trusts in human beings, who relies on human strength and whose heart turns from Yahweh.

6 Such a person is like scrub in the wastelands: when good comes, it does not affect him since he lives in the parched places of the desert, uninhabited, salt land.

7 ‘Blessed is anyone who trusts in Yahweh, with Yahweh to rely on.

8 Such a person is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream: when the heat comes it has nothing to fear, its foliage stays green; untroubled in a year of drought, it never stops bearing fruit.

Jeremiah 17:5-8

The verses above are from the 1st reading today. And here’s the responsorial psalm talking about the same thing:

1 How blessed is anyone who rejects the advice of the wicked and does not take a stand in the path that sinners tread, nor a seat in company with cynics,

2 but who delights in the law of Yahweh and murmurs his law day and night.

3 Such a one is like a tree planted near streams; it bears fruit in season and its leaves never wither, and every project succeeds.

Psalms 1:1-2, 3, 4, 6

Why we need to trust and rely on God

Dearest, it doesn’t get any clearer than this. I’d have to be blind or can’t read to ignore this.

You want us to always trust and rely on You totally and completely every day for every little thing in our lives.

So grinding, hustling, and working almost day and night to get the life of our dreams is not what You want us to do.

It’s just pointless.

Why would we toil so much when we have a Father Who created the whole universe, ever ready to provide and care for us if we only rely and call on Him?

We are heirs by God’s own act when He gave Jesus to die and rise to life for us.

But when the time arrived that was set by God the Father, God sent his Son, born among us of a woman, born under the conditions of the law so that he might redeem those of us who have been kidnapped by the law.

Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage.

You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!”

Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child?

And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.

Galatians 4:4‭-‬7 MSG

Heirs trusting and relying on God, our Father

So what do heirs do? Do they toil and struggle on their own? No, most heirs work on the family business, expanding it to the best of their abilities. For those who want to start their own thing, their Father usually gives them the needed resources for a good start.

And what of us ordinary children with ordinary parents?

Here’s a powerful lesson from The Lion King movie and Joel Osteen on being children of God Almighty, King of heaven and earth:

The One thing

What’s needed only is to keep in mind and live Matthew 6:33:

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all else will be given you besides.

The Message Bible states it clearly:

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving.

People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Matthew 6:30‭-‬33 MSG

Today and every day of my life, Dearest, I commit again to seek after You, follow You, and love You with all my heart, mind, body, soul, and Spirit.

Do in me what You must, in order to do through me what You will.

Challenged to trust and rely on God for my business

I heard today from Terri Savelle Foy about focus: Do a few things often and get better at them.

Am I on the right track, Lord?

As you know I’m on to several online endeavors at this time:

  • POD (Red bubble, Teepublic, Zazzle, Spreadshirt UK & US)
  • PoD- Digital/Printable shops (Shopify and Etsy)
  • Low content books (Amazon Kindle)
  • YouTube Channel
  • Blog

But even though I’m doing several things at the same time, my one focus is to bring the good news to the afflicted, inspiring dreamers in Christ.

My plan is to take 1 message I feel God wants me to bring to the world and then make it into a POD design, a low content book cover, a printable wall art, a topic in a YouTube video, and a topic on a blog post.

So basically, I’m just doing one design, converting it to different media, and posting it on many different platforms.

My thought is that the more web real estate I claim, the more avenues to reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ.

My weekly content plan and work structure

Admittedly, I’m only able to do one thing a day. Here’s my content plan for a whole week which I just started last week after You’ve shown me how:

  • Monday – Print on Demand (POD)
  • Tuesday – 5 min video ( posted to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook)
  • Wednesday – Low content books (Posted on Amazon Kindle)
  • Thursday – 1 min Shorts video (Posted to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Friday – Digital/Printable on Etsy and Shopify
  • Saturday – Blog

I’m able to implement this structure and it worked well for me. I felt fulfilled having done all I’d set out to do.

I even felt that You were pleased with me cause I didn’t have anything to do on my online job, even though I asked for tasks.

I took it as my day off.

Unpaid off, but well, I started tithing again in today’s mass and I believe You will take care of all my and my family’s needs for this week. ( I get paid weekly)

I was able to complete:

  • 3 designs (1 design, 3 variants) for POD listed in Redbubble, Teepublic. 3 products (1 design) on Zazzle cause it’s harder to upload in bulk, I have to upload 1 product at a time)
  • 2 videos (1 regular, 1 short)
  • 5 low content books on Amazon Kindle (1 design)
  • 1 listing ( 1 design, 5 variants printable wall art) to Etsy, Shopify
  • 3 blogs posted (cause Thursday, You inspired me to start posting my morning reflection on my blog each and every night.

Am I doing things right? Or should I focus on one endeavor at a time?

Yes, each endeavor takes up the focused 2 hours I’ve allotted for doing my online business daily.

Sometimes more, going into the second 2 hours I’ve allocated for my part-time online job. (This job gives me full-time compensation for part-time hours, giving me assignments only every other week.)

Do you think I’ll be able to achieve more if I focus only on one undertaking?

Trusting and relying on God’s inspiration

Is that why You inspired me to post on the blog every day?

This means I write my morning reflection which I always do during my prayer time, do my one thing for the day (OTD) on my focused 2 biz hours, then post my blog an hour before I wind down for bed at night.

Is the blog what You want me to focus on?

Even though I’ve decided not to put up advertisements on my blog, I plan for it to be a place to share affiliate links for the products I use and recommend, also to share links to my shops’ products and YouTube channel, as well as collect emails for my subscriber list.

Will this be the strategy you want me to pursue?

I thought YouTube will be the central hub for me.

Admittedly, it’s easier for me to write than produce a video.

As of now, I just curated all of the YouTube videos that have inspired me, added my one idea and Your Word to anchor the message, and post them as shorts or 5 min bite-size videos to make them consumable for my audience who have no patience to watch long videos.

Well, I don’t have many people watching yet but I’m hoping my audience will be like me who wants bite-sized, inspirational videos that lead me closer to God.

Also, I’m paying a lot for hosting on my website so might as well make the most use of it.

Okay. If you say so, I’ll add it to my schedule. I’ll do it.

And then I’ll evaluate when I get to 100 articles. Right now I’m up to 28.

I will do all You inspire me to do as best as I can and then trust and rely on You for the results.

Thank You, Lord, for this inspiration.

Help me follow through.

Now Your turn

Are you struggling to trust and rely on God for every detail of your life? Or are you trusting much in your own strength and the people around you? Trust and rely on God and see miracles start happening in your life.
